Portmeirion – Sara Hughes

Sara Hughes has made a real impact on the business and operations at Portmeirion. Over the last four years, she has increased our average room rate by £40 and increased overall occupancy by 2%, helping the company to meet some of its main targets and objectives. Her innovative approach to pricing strategy has allowed Portmeirion to increase profitability and efficiency.

Her focus on generating revenue hasn’t lessened her attention to customer service. As the manager of the Reservations Team, Sara regularly interacts with customers and provides the highest quality service, going above and beyond to ensure customers have an extra special experience during their stay at Portmeirion. From arranging transportation to Portmeirion to ordering flowers to the room for a couple’s anniversary, Sara always makes the customer feel like a priority. Which keeps repeat business at an all-time high.

Sara is always looking for new ways to sell and package our accommodation offer. Through her creativity, she has developed packages that our customers look for year after year including Be Our Guest and January Blues. As a member of the senior management team, Sara was instrumental in developing and implementing the Portmeirion Green Policy in 2018.

Originally from the Lake District, Sara has lived and worked in Wales since 2006. She has attended Welsh language courses in her local community and is Secretary for the Park Committee in her village of Morfa Bychan.

Taylored Catering Services Ltd – Ryan Taylor

Ryan Taylor is a friendly, confident and approachable member of The Carriage Tearoom team, based at Llangollen Railway Station.  Despite only 19, Ryan has maturity beyond his years and strives to create a special and memorable experience for any visitor to the restored heritage train carriage facility. Customers of all ages consistently provide excellent feedback about Ryan’s attentive, yet informal and relaxing level of service to customers.  Ryan is passionate about creating a relaxed atmosphere for all customers and always aims to ensure customers not only receive exceptional service, but endeavours to ensure their experience encourages future visits. Ryan’s personality is very open and honest and combined with his drive to create memories for visitors, he should be an outstanding nominee for this customer service award. It goes without saying that numerous comments highlighting ‘excellent staff’ on The Carriage Tearoom Facebook page are as a result of Ryan leading the service and small staff team on that day. Due to Ryan’s personality and ability to provide exceptional service across diverse customer groups (sometimes international groups), Ryan is called upon outside the Carriage Tearooms across numerous catered events throughout the Heritage Railway, including weddings and special events. At every occasion Ryan never fails to win customers over and create for them a memorable experience of their time in the captivating Dee Valley.

Cyclone Events – Sam Foulkes

I am managing director of Cyclone Events based in Wrexham. I am just 25 years old. I founded Cyclone Events in February 2017 with my step dad Stewart. The company has gone from strength to strength bringing new, exciting events to North Wales and in particular Wrexham. Myself and Stewart have worked extremely hard over the past 19 months and to receive an award for all the hard work would just be the icing on the cake. We are extremely proud of Wrexham and will continue to work hard bringing people to the area for some fantastic events and we will carry on working with local businesses and agencies to continue to help make Wrexham the place to be! We have hosted some great events which include ‘Rock the Park music festival’ which saw 13,000 people through the gates this year, North Wales Prosecco & Gin festival which welcomed 2,000 guests to Brynkinalt Hall, The Greatest Showman on stage at the Stiwt Theatre which sold out and hosted over 3500 people across 7 shows.  I am also part of and volunteer my time at Wrexham Glyndwr Rotary Club which is a charitable organisation run by volunteers who donate their time to host a variety of charity events and fundraisers throughout the year to help raise vital funds for charities locally and across the world. I will continue making a difference and making north Wales the event capitol of the UK!
